About Phoenix

Phoenix is Arizona's desert capital, a sprawling Sonoran Desert city of saguaro cacti, museums, mountain parks and year-round sunshine.

Phoenix spreads across the Salt River Valley in the Sonoran Desert, ringed by mountains and dotted with saguaro cacti. Its name recalls the ancient Hohokam canals on which the settlers built. Camelback Mountain, a red sandstone peak shaped like a kneeling camel, rises in the east, and South Mountain Park is among the largest city parks in the United States.
