  3. Great private beach where we stop for a refreshment, plenty of English local pubs and cafes to explore. Rottingdean Beach is a pebble beach near Brighton on the East Sussex coast. It is a peaceful and picturesque spot, and a perfect escape from the bustling crowds and backed by imposing cliffs. It is safe to swim at Rottingdean Beach, and there are lifeguards on duty during the summer months. There is even a basketball court on the beach by the carpark. This beach is on the Undercliff Walk which runs from Rottingdean towards Brighton Marina. For a brief spell in the 1930s and 40s, Rottingdean was the go-to place for Hollywood’s finest, and actor Cary Grant loved the village. He stayed there whenever he was filming in the UK. About Brighton

Brighton, on the Sussex coast, is a lively seaside city of pebble beach, Regency architecture, a pier and narrow shopping lanes.

Brighton grew from a fishing village into a fashionable resort in the eighteenth century, and in the early nineteenth the Prince Regent, later George IV, rebuilt his seaside villa as the Royal Pavilion, an Indian-style palace with domes and minarets over an interior in Chinese taste. Palace Pier, which opened in 1899, stretches out over the sea with arcades and rides, and the pebble beach, lined with deckchairs and cafés, runs below the seafront promenade.

Top-ranked sights in Brighton: Devil’s Dyke, Royal Pavilion, Brighton Dome.
