Livingstone is a town in southwestern Zambia, a few kilometers from the Zambezi River and the border with Zimbabwe. It’s a hub for visitors to the Victoria Falls. The adjoining Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park surrounds the Zambian side of the falls. Livingstone is a Zambian town on the Zambezi River, a few kilometres from Victoria Falls, with a colonial centre, wildlife and river adventures.
Livingstone stands on the northern bank of the Zambezi, about ten kilometres from Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Smoke That Thunders. The town grew after the railway arrived in 1905 and was capital of Northern Rhodesia until 1935. It is named after David Livingstone, who in 1855 became the first European to see the falls, and the Livingstone Museum holds his letters and local history.
