About Guarulhos
Guarulhos, a large city just north-east of São Paulo, is best known for Brazil's main international airport and the forests of the Cantareira range.
Guarulhos is part of the São Paulo metropolitan area, and its origins as a settlement date to the 16th century. The old centre of streets and small squares has since grown into one of the most populous cities in the state. The Tietê river basin lies to the south, and the northern edge of the city climbs into the Serra da Cantareira, a forested range that helps protect São Paulo's water supply.
