They were built during the 18th Dynasty of ancient Egypt and are believed to depict the pharaoh Amenhotep III , who ruled from approximately 1386 to 1353 BCE. The statues are made from a single block of stone and stand at a height of about 60 feet (18 meters), weighing around 1000 tons each. The Colossi of Memnon were originally part of the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III , which was a grand structure dedicated to the pharaoh's worship and funerary cult. About Luxor

Top-ranked sights in Luxor: Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut (at Deir el-Bahari), Colossi of Memnon.
