Rute

  1. Izola is a small fishing town with an artistic soul. Once an island like some other coastal towns, it was gradually connected to the mainland through land reclamation in the 19th century. For many years, its main industries were fishing and agriculture, primarily focused on gardening and viticulture. Later, the town industrialized, boasting a shipyard, a large toy factory, and a significant fish canning plant during its most prosperous times. The earliest discovered artifacts are located in Simon's Bay (Roman Halieatum), belonging to a rustic villa with a port, which was later destroyed. The inhabitants then moved to a safer location, a nearby island, where Izola was founded.

About Trieste

Trieste is an Adriatic port on Italy's border with Slovenia, a city of Habsburg-era palaces, old coffeehouses and a great square that opens onto the sea.

Trieste was the Roman town of Tergeste and became the main seaport of the Habsburg empire after it was declared a free port in 1719. Its grand centre dates from that period: Piazza Unità d'Italia, a vast square of palaces with one side open to the water, the Canal Grande, a short canal lined with cafés and a church, and the grid of the Borgo Teresiano. Above the old town, the cathedral of San Giusto and a castle crown a hill, with a Roman theatre below.

Top-ranked sights in Trieste: Piazza Unità d'Italia (Piazza Grande), Miramare Castle (Castello di Miramare).
