Surrounded by local shops and bustling streets, Ga Hiti stands as a quiet reminder of Kathmandu's rich heritage amidst Thamel’s modern vibrancy. Tham Bahi, also known as Bhagwan Bahal, is a historic Buddhist monastery located in the bustling heart of Thamel. This serene site is an active place of worship for local Buddhists and holds deep cultural and religious significance. Interestingly, Tham Bahi is the namesake of Thamel; over time, "Tham Bahi" evolved into "Thamel," giving the area its iconic name. The courtyard of the monastery is adorned with intricately carved stone statues, prayer wheels, and stupas, reflecting traditional Newar craftsmanship. Despite being surrounded by Thamel’s lively streets, the monastery offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can experience the spiritual essence of Kathmandu's heritage.
