Discover the old town of Hvar! The largest of these, also named Hvar, served as an important harbor for the Venetian Adriatic fleet from the late 12th century through most of the 18th century. To remind us of its former importance, Hvar houses a thick-walled fortress overlooking the harbor and, in the very heart of the port, a large Arsenal, an imposing building built in 1611.

Hvar served as an important harbor for Venice Adriatic fleet from the late 12th century through most of the 18th century. The guide will lead the guests to the main square to visit the Cathedral of St. Stephen and its bell tower with its distinctive mark of the Venetian rule. On our route we will pass by the Arsenal, an imposing building built in 1611.

About Hvar
Hvar is a long Adriatic island of lavender, vineyards and Venetian stonework, with a harbour town beneath a hilltop fortress.
Hvar town curves around a harbour on the island's south-west coast, with a broad stone square, a Renaissance loggia and a Venetian arsenal. The upper floor of the arsenal holds a theatre dating from 1612, among the oldest public theatres in Europe. Above the town, the fortress on the hill gives the best view over the red roofs and the Pakleni Islands offshore.
