The itinerary begins at Arenal Observatory Lodge and Lake Arenal surrounding the forest area. This mid-elevation tropical region has some of the most impressive Birding habitats of the Country. This attraction is located by the western foothill of our active summit. Visitors will be able to appreciate a vast variety of avian species, such as Toucans, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, oropendolas, manakins, flycatchers, herons, egrets, kingfishers, birds of prey, and many more. Mammals as Howler or Capuchin monkeys, sloths, coatis, which also share this nature-rich environment. Join us to experience all this combination of colors, melodies, views surrounded by unique and incomparable biodiversity accompanied by our local Nature Expert.
Created during the 1980s decade to supply electricity throughout the country. Arenal lake became an essential wetland for migratory avian wildlife species. This ecological condition allowed this body of water to achieve a Ramsar Site category, which is embraced to a worldwide regulation with specific legislation accorded in Ramsar, Iran in 1971. About La Fortuna
La Fortuna is Costa Rica's adventure hub at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, with rainforest, hot springs, waterfalls and a mountain lake.
The near-perfect cone of the Arenal Volcano rises above the town, and Arenal Volcano National Park has trails through old lava flows and rainforest with views of the summit.
