Thingvellir National Park is one of Iceland’s most important historical and geological sites. Here, travelers can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and learn about Alþingi, Iceland’s historic parliament, founded in 930. Kerið is a striking volcanic crater lake formed around 6,500 years ago. Travelers can view the vivid red volcanic slopes and blue-green lake from the rim, with the option to walk partway around the crater or descend toward the water, depending on conditions and available time.
