Curitiba, the capital of Paraná in southern Brazil, is a cool, green plateau city known for its parks, its bus system and its Polish and Ukrainian roots.

Curitiba stands on a plateau about 900 metres above sea level, and its planning, with parks, pedestrian streets and an express bus system from the 1970s, is known across Brazil. The Largo da Ordem old quarter has colonial churches and a Sunday fair, Rua XV de Novembro is a pedestrian street through the centre, and the Jardim Botânico has a long glasshouse with formal gardens in front.
