1. Our first stop is at the Walvis Bay esplanade. Here we see the Pink Flamingos. We learn about the greater and lesser Flamingos. We drop our tyre pressure to .8 bar and are ready to take on the beach ride. We pass the pink Salt lakes of the Salt Mine and passed hundreds of waders and palearctic migratory birds in the Lagoon, along the shore to the towering Dunes of Sandwich harbour. Magnificent wide open spaces as the dunes get closer to the sea. We enter where Dunes meets sea on a narrow strip of beach. Awesome dune views and walks await us. We take a stomach tingling roller coaster ride to the Sandwich harbor view point. The bay is at your feet, surrounded by the Nara bush. Sandy sandbanks are awash in the bay and the green sea with blue sky red dunes is absolutely awesome. We take a dune drive to the best views, searching for animals in the desert and look for an unique picnic spot. Lunch with a dune view, quiet, very quiet only us around. We have time for dune and beach walks.

2. Our route takes us through the dunes and a game drive where we might see Ostriches , Oryx, Jackal and Springbuck. On the beach the Seals may be sleeping or playing, and if we are lucky we will see Dolphins and Whales. The route is back along the shores with thousands of birds. Sadly we end up in Walvis Bay. We tank up and air up and take your back to your hotel.

• 5Amazing "have it all"-tour

  The Sandwich Harbour tour was an excellent introduction to Namibia, and I really felt well taken care of! Our guide Riaan was joking and entertaining us all along, but at the same time he had lots of knowledge and was a skilled driver in the dunes and a good photograper too. We stopped at a really nice lunch-spot in the dunes with views over the sea, and the guides had prepared for photoes to be taken for each of us with the Namibian flag. My little group paid for a half day tour, but we got the equivalent to a full day tour since we had the time and Riaan "didn't like to rush it". Loved my day!

• 5Beautiful trip with experienced and kind guide Andrew

  At the beginning of this trip, I have to say I didn’t have much expectation, but after we went in Sandwich Harbour, it changed really quickly! I took so many pics and vids and thanks to our really cool guide Andrew we learned a lot about life in Namibia, local wildlife and so on! Thanks once again Andrew, you did a really great job 🙂👍

• 5Amazing Sandwich Harbour Tour with Andrew

  We had an amazing tour from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay and Sandwich Harbour with our guide Andrew. He shared so many interesting facts and background stories throughout the day. His great sense of humor and warm, friendly personality made the experience even more enjoyable. We had a fantastic time and would absolutely recommend this tour, especially with Andrew as your guide :) BR Anna

  Great tour to one of the world’s most beautiful places as well as Andrew showing great driving skills over the dunes. I Also did another tour with Andrew to the seal colony and Skeleton Coast. Andrew is an awesome guide and has so much local knowledge and experience.

• 5Best Day Ever!

  Today’s Sandwich Harbour adventure was easily one of the highlights of our Namibia trip — and a big part of that was our guide, Louwrens. From the time he picked us up until he dropped us off, everything ran like clockwork. Louwrens knows this coastline like the back of his hand and kept us entertained with stories about the Namib, the wildlife, the harbour and its history. He knew exactly where to stop for the best photos, and somehow managed to make driving over enormous dunes look completely effortless. We, meanwhile, were hanging on and pretending it was effortless too! Desert on one side, Atlantic Ocean on the other — pretty hard to beat. If you’re in this area we highly recommend this tour, and don't forget to ask for Louwrens. He turned an amazing landscape into a truly memorable day.

About Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay, on the Atlantic coast of Namibia, is a port town where the Namib Desert meets the sea, with a lagoon full of flamingos.

Walvis Bay is Namibia's main port, set on a sheltered bay with a lagoon where large flocks of flamingos and pelicans feed, and desert dunes begin at the edge of town. Cold water from the Benguela Current brings fog and a cool, dry climate, and rain is rare. South Africa administered the town until 1994, when it became part of Namibia.
