About Nassau

Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas, a pastel-painted harbour town on New Providence Island with old forts, a pirate past and a straw market.

Nassau lies on the north coast of New Providence, facing Paradise Island across a sheltered harbour. In the early 1700s the settlement was a haven for pirates, a period retold in its museums, and it later became the seat of British colonial government.
