Even though the history of Berlin Cathedral, or Berliner Dom as it is called in German, is the largest protestant church in Germany, started in 1465, its construction was completed in the 19th century. Listen to the peripeties of the cathedral construction, finding out which royal dynasty is buried here.
The core of the political system and power of Germany is the Reichstag building, since in here the German parliament is housed. After peripeties and negotiations the former palace was replaced by the building which became the home of the 19th century General Assembly. Later, its capture by the Soviet army marked the end of WWII and the victory over the Nazis.
The Brandenburg Gate is not only one of Berlin’s landmarks, but also a symbol of peace and unity. Its neoclassical structure reminds of King Frederick William II’s aspirations to construct a new Athens on the river Spree, while the winged victory on its top recalls the arrival of Napoleon in Berlin. Follow the footsteps of the French leader in order to find out how the sculpture was once found in Paris.
Today it looks like nothing more than a little shed in the middle of a modern, busy street, but Checkpoint Charlie is the embodiment of the post-war decades that not only shaped Berlin or Germany, but even the entire world. It is A symbol of the Cold War era, as well as of the time Berlin lived as a city divided by a Wall, it served as a single-person crossing-point from West Berlin into East Berlin and vice versa. Listen to the stories about the escapes and how Checkpoint Charlie became the theatre of the Berlin Crisis of 1961.

About Berlin
Berlin is Germany's creative, open-minded capital, where landmarks of a turbulent history stand among art, green parks and legendary nightlife.
The Brandenburg Gate is the city's symbol, close to the glass-domed Reichstag and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Fragments of the Berlin Wall survive, most strikingly at the East Side Gallery, a long stretch covered in murals, and at the Bernauer Strasse memorial, while Checkpoint Charlie marks the most famous former crossing point.
Top-ranked sights in Berlin: Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor), Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (Holocaust Memorial), Checkpoint Charlie.
