What makes San Pedro so interesting are the conditions in which around 1500 of Bolivia’s most hardened criminals live. A society within itself, the prison contains shops and restaurants run by inmates, women and children living voluntarily with imprisoned family members and ironically, some of the country’s busiest cocaine laboratories.

Its route begins at the Obelisk Square and ends at the former Municipal Zoo, also known as Monkey Park. This avenue was named in homage to the former President of the Republic, Eliodoro Camacho.

About La Paz

La Paz is Bolivia's seat of government, a high-altitude city in a canyon below Illimani, linked by cable car and known for its markets.

La Paz fills a steep canyon on the Altiplano, between roughly 3,200 and 4,000 metres above sea level, with the snowy peak of Illimani standing over its southern edge. Sucre is the constitutional capital, but the government sits here. Plaza Murillo holds the cathedral and the presidential palace, and nearby Calle Jaén keeps colonial houses and small museums.
