  • 5Great tour of Alice Springs and surrounds.

Great way to see Alice Springs with very friendly, informative and knowledgeable guide, Bluey. All admission fees included. Particularly enjoyed the visit to the RFDS and the School of Air. Coffee, tea and biscuits at the Ooraminna Station Homestead then seeing the film set from The Drover’s Boy was interesting.

  • 5Very informative history tour.

This experience gives you a great rundown of the history in and around Alice Springs. We left minds full of information. If you are lucky to get Bluey as your guide you have hit the jackpot. Oh was he a treat! A walking encyclopedia.

  • 2Thanks but no Thanks.

Karen was an abominable tour guide. I only attended the first half of the tour, as I could not stand her for a whole day. The company has promised a partial refund; we'll see if that comes through. A dizzying mess, who didn't know if she was coming or going. A person who turns everything into a big drama and puts you on edge with her over-the-top antics and unprofessional behaviour. The first thing she tells us passengers is that "the operations manager is in hospital and he's an idiot". Her words exactly. She leaves us in the bus for ages trying to sort out other customers not on our tour. We start late. She then laments about how many fires she constantly has to put out because everyone around her is incompetent. Not a good look. (One has to wonder if she ever realised that if everyone around her are idiots and incompetent, maybe it's her who is the common denominator there?) Me and two 70 yr old ladies are surprised at the steep narrow rocky walk *behind* the petroglyphs. Considering the Tour is supposed to be easy grading, suitable for all ages and fitness. The older woman almost fell off a narrow rocky incline, but I was able to catch her. If I hadn't she would have been seriously injured. She specifically told us not to go into the long grass, yet she traipsed us through it. Out at the station she can't get the gate to open. She says she has no service out here and never does but hasn't changed providers. So she asks to use someone else's phone to ring up and get the new code. More crazed yammering and waiting. Then comes the roughest ride of our lives. She says the road hasn't been graded and she's not sure the bus can manage. Not good to hear when she admits mobile coverage is bad. Morning tea is just tea bags and Coles wafers in a ghost town set. The itinerary says we were supposed to have morning tea at "wild horse bar". We never did see the red dune desert lookout as advertised, either. Rough as hell ride back out, so much so my butt actually lifts off the seat despite being belted in. My butt and back aches after. The Ghan/transport museum was good only because we were finally left alone from the incessant rabbling. She speeds back through down, to drop us off for lunch, quite a lead foot and she even remarks she's a bad driver. I had no confidence or desire to get back in that van after the morning antics for the second part. I also had the displeasure of seeing her again at another job, where she proceeded to call everyone schizophrenic. She really just doesn't care how she seems, does she? You get the two stars simply because of Bluey who was a gentleman that assisted me on a day I was not on his tour, when our paths crossed.

  • 5Totally unique - and fun!

Unforgettable adventure in the uniquely beautiful Palm Valley. Highlights were the 1-hour walk around the valley (not too hard, not too easy) and the exciting 4WD ride to get there. Bluey the guide was meticulous about safety and keeping everyone healthy in the heat, while also keeping the vibe relaxed and telling some great stories. The scenery was magnificent all through the Valley with red cliffs and an oasis of green. Lunch was DIY wraps - not fancy but fresh and tasty. The visit to Hermansburg was also interesting and it's sad that this site is closing soon - hope it reopens once the season picks up. A great tour for adventurers of any age.

  • 1One unsympathetic Aussie

We traveled in Australia for a month with an Australian couple who are from Sydney, and we met many friendly, caring and approachable Australians. We were fortunate to stay in Alice Springs for a week to discover west and east MacDonnell ranges with tour companies and families in AS. We took a Palm Valley tour with Emu Experience booked by Discover Australia Holidays on July 10th 2024. The driver was an old cranky & totally uncaring fellow named Gary. Pertaining to the tour, if you have limited time, we would skip Palm Valley and go for the West MacDonnell ranges. We had 10 passengers for this trip and one of the passengers, Bill experienced heat exhaustion during the walk. Unfortunately, my wife who is an American emergency care physician and another passenger we were traveling with is an Australian nurse. Fortunately, Bill was cared by these individuals. After Bill’s heat exhaustion episode, our remaining agenda for the day was a picnic lunch and return to Alice Springs. We mentioned to the driver Gary since Bill is uncomfortable with his condition, we could forgo lunch & return to Alice Spring to care for Bill if he needed further assistance. Now, Gary’s remark was that he needed to take a break required by his union. If Gary was experiencing the same condition or a heart attack, would he prefer to hear the uncharacteristic & unsympathetic remark made by him? Dr. Bailey & Dr. Burke Washington, D.C.

About Alice Springs

Alice Springs is a small desert town in Australia's Red Centre, set among the red ridges of the MacDonnell Ranges beside the usually dry Todd River.

Alice Springs grew from a telegraph station built in 1872 beside a waterhole on the Todd River, which is usually a wide bed of dry sand. The town, called Mparntwe by the Arrernte people, lies in a gap in the MacDonnell Ranges, and Anzac Hill gives a view over its grid of streets. Aboriginal art galleries, the Desert Park and the restored Telegraph Station are among the main sights.

Top-ranked sights in Alice Springs: Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye), MacDonnell Ranges, Simpsons Gap.
