모나코에서 즐길 거리

Monaco is a tiny Riviera principality of yachts, a famous casino and a clifftop old town, packed into a few streets between France and the sea.

Monaco covers about two square kilometres on the French Riviera, a country of steep streets, tunnels and towers between the Mediterranean and the hills. Monte-Carlo, its glitzy district, has the Belle Époque Casino and Opera, with the Café de Paris on the square in front. The Grand Prix circuit runs through the streets each spring.

Monaco-Ville, the old town, sits on the Rock, a promontory with the Prince's Palace, a cathedral where Princess Grace is buried and the Oceanographic Museum on the cliff edge. Port Hercule is full of yachts, the Exotic Garden spills cacti down a hillside, and Larvotto has the principality's main public beach. Menton, Èze and Nice lie along the same coast.

Barbajuan, a fried pastry filled with chard and cheese, is the national snack, and fougasse and stockfish stew come from Monégasque cooking, close to Niçoise and Ligurian food. The covered market in the Condamine district, below the Rock, is where local produce and flowers are sold. Mild winters and warm summers mean the Riviera is pleasant from April to October.
