見どころ

Visiting the village of Mukuni, a short ride from Livingstone, shows you how people in rural Zambia live. You get in an insight into the daily life, see how traditional clay huts and houses are being built and what work people do to make a living: farming, home industries and commerce. A guide will take you on a stroll through the village, meeting families, who often are willing to show you their home and tell you about what it is like living in this traditional Zambian way. Zambia is a nation with over 72 tribes each tribe with its own distinct and identifying culture. The cultural diversity makes it very interesting to indulge in cultural excursions. This activity is conducted in Mukuni Village of the Leya people.

  1. Mukuni’s Village is a Royal village which was founded around the 13th Century. It is home to about 7,000 Leya people. The chief has invited visitors into his village to get a glimpse of how his people have lived for generations and to learn a little about their traditional customs and beliefs. The Chief’s guides and the people of the village are more than happy to show visitors their huts and take you inside, explain how they are built and decorated, introduce you to various craftsmen and women at work and ask you to taste some traditional foods and beer. This is a working village, not a purpose built tourist attraction, and it is a privilege to be welcomed into their lifestyle.

About Livingstone

Livingstone is a Zambian town on the Zambezi River, a few kilometres from Victoria Falls, with a colonial centre, wildlife and river adventures.

Livingstone stands on the northern bank of the Zambezi, about ten kilometres from Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Smoke That Thunders. The town grew after the railway arrived in 1905 and was capital of Northern Rhodesia until 1935. It is named after David Livingstone, who in 1855 became the first European to see the falls, and the Livingstone Museum holds his letters and local history.

Top-ranked sights in Livingstone: Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Devil's Pool, Livingstone Museum.
