Join us for a guided journey through time, faith, and art as we unveil the extraordinary stories behind the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica. Stroll through the iconic St. Peter’s Square as your guide brings to life the history of Nero’s Circus and the ancient necropolis that still rests below. Did you know that Saint Peter, one of Jesus’s apostles, was crucified and buried right beneath the very basilica that now bears his name? Marvel at Michelangelo’s Pietà, a masterpiece carved when he was just 24 years old. Stand beneath Bernini’s towering bronze canopy, crafted from 64 tons of metal repurposed from the Pantheon. Discover the intricate mosaics that adorn the interior and learn about their rich symbolism and painstaking craftsmanship. Your tour concludes near the entrance of the Basilica, giving you the opportunity to linger, revisit the highlights, or continue your experience.
After passing through a brief police security check, your journey continues into the Vatican Grottoes, home to the tombs of numerous Popes—including Saint Peter himself. From there, you will ascend into the majestic interior of the basilica, where breathtaking works of art await.
