The Cathedral of Saint Mary Major (Portuguese: Santa Maria Maior de Lisboa or Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Mary Major), often called Lisbon Cathedral or simply the Sé (Sé de Lisboa), is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Lisbon, Portugal. The oldest church in the city, it is the seat of the Patriarchate of Lisbon. Built in 1147, the cathedral has survived many earthquakes and has been modified, renovated and restored several times. The Roman Theater Museum is a museum space dedicated to the Roman theater of Lisbon, which was built in the time of Augustus (r. 27 BC – 14 AD) and occupies the southern slope of the hill of Castelo de São Jorge next to Pátio do Aljube, 5 (on Rua Augusto Rosa). The theater, abandoned in the 4th century AD, remained buried until 1798, the year in which the ruins were discovered after the 1755 earthquake. The museum is housed in a 17th century building, in the area likely to be one of the theater's old entrances. The object of several archaeological campaigns since 1967, part of the benches, the orchestra, the stage and the stage, as well as a large number of decorative elements, were recovered.
