About Nikšić

Nikšić is Montenegro's second city, an inland town on a wide plain in the Dinaric mountains, with a medieval fortress and lakes close by.

Nikšić lies inland on a high plain in the Dinaric mountains, the second-largest city in Montenegro and its main industrial centre. A Roman settlement named Anagastum stood here, and the ruins of the fortress of Onogošt, rebuilt by the Ottomans, stand on a rise above the town. Montenegrin forces took the town in 1877, and it grew into a modern city of broad avenues and a green park on Trebjesa hill.
