It was inaugurated in 1979, replacing, as the cathedral of the city, the Church of Our Lady of Carmo. In modern style, it has a conical shape, with 106 meters in diameter, 75 meters in outer height, 64 meters inward height[1] and a capacity for 20 000 people standing. A differential of the building, of straight and sober lines, is due to the colorful vitrails torn on the walls to the dome.
