Chefchaouen is so much more than just blue houses. Discover what the city tastes like on this incredible food tour. We'll pick you up from your hotel. About Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is a mountain town in northern Morocco whose old medina is washed in blue, set among the Rif hills with hiking trails nearby.
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 as a small fortress against Portuguese raids and grew when Muslim and Jewish refugees from Spain settled here. Its old town, the medina, is a maze of steep lanes and houses washed in shades of blue, with painted doors and pots of flowers. The main square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, is dominated by the red-walled kasbah and the Great Mosque with its octagonal minaret.
