The tour begins at our meeting point on Melchor Ocampo Street 1017, where we will welcome you and begin this mezcal adventure.
El Rey de Matatlán is an artisanal mezcal distillery with a long tradition in the state. At this location, you will learn about the most popular way mezcal is produced. You will take a tour of the entire facility to observe each step of the process, and at the end of the explanation, you will proceed with a tasting of the distilled spirits in their different presentations.
We will visit an agave field to learn about the plantation and cultivation of each species. You will also be amazed by the beautiful agave landscapes, which create a stunning contrast with the mountains surrounding the area. This is also a favorite spot for taking photos. Depending on the season and the age of the crops, you may have the opportunity to harvest an agave plant, making the activity more immersive and connected to the daily work of local farmers.
La Herencia de Lucas is a distillery that produces mezcal using ancestral methods. You will be surprised by the quality of the distillate, and through this experience, you will gain a deeper understanding of the aromas and flavors of each agave used to make the beverage. We cannot overlook the tasting of genuine mezcals crafted by Maestro Fernando with great passion and love, preserving the knowledge that has been passed down through his family.
To close the experience, we will enjoy the local gastronomy of the Magical Town of Mitla, with multiple options to try traditional dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. Vegan options will also be available, ensuring that all visitors can enjoy the meal in a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.
At the end of the tour, we will return to the city and drop you off a few blocks from the Zócalo. If you prefer to get off at another point along the route, please let your guide know, and we will be happy to make it possible.

About Oaxaca City
Oaxaca City is the colonial capital of Oaxaca state, a stone-built highland city of markets, mole, mezcal and Zapotec ruins nearby.
Oaxaca de Juárez sits in a high valley at about 1,500 metres, its centre built of pale green stone around a shaded zócalo. The baroque church of Santo Domingo, with its gilded interior, and the attached former convent, now a cultural museum, are the grandest sights. Streets run with market stalls, painted walls and courtyard cafés, and the historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
