About Ascoli Piceno
Ascoli Piceno is a hill town in the Marche region of central Italy, built of pale travertine and famous for its fried stuffed olives.
Ascoli Piceno sits where the Tronto and Castellano rivers meet, and its old centre is built of pale travertine stone that glows in the afternoon light. The main square, Piazza del Popolo, is lined with arcaded palaces and church fronts. The town takes its name from the Piceni, an Italic people who lived here before Roman rule.
